Did Jesus came forth from God?

The Pharisees belief

Some view that the Pharisees believed that "Jesus came from God". This view if often supported by a biased translation where the word "came" was added to the text to support the idea that "Jesus came forth from God".

Instead, the Pharisees thought:

  • Jesus was the leader of demons (Matthew 9:34; Mark 3:22)
  • Jesus was a false prophet from Galilee (John 7:48-52)

Jesus' claim

For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved me, and have believed that I came forth from God. I came forth from the Father and have come into the world.

His disciples said to Him, “See, now You are speaking plainly, and using no figure of speech! Now we are sure that you know all things, and have no need that anyone should question you. By this we believe that you came forth from God.”

-- John 16:27-30 (NKJV)

Jesus life or spirit came from the Father and that he would return again, just like we would too (Ecclesiastes 12:7).

The Greek word "exerchomai" that was translated as "came forth", could also mean "to be declared" according to Thayer's Greek Lexicon. This also echos in John's introduction:

The only begotten son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared him. -- John 1:18 (NKJV)

Even if "came forth" was the correct translation, it still does not proof that Jesus is God, because nature shows that all children came forth from their fathers. In Jesus case:

Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After his mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit. -- Matthew 1:18 (NKJV)

Now, some would argue that this means the Holy Spirit is the biological Father of Jesus. However, according to Jesus a father is the one whose actions proceed from you (whom you obey):

Jesus said unto them,

"If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

Which of you convinceth me of sin?
And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

He that is of God heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

-- John 8:42-47 (KJV)

The Jews were not demons, yet Jesus said their father is the devil.
