The Son as God

However, God the Father also has similar attributes as per the above definition of God:

  • The Father also eternal. (Isaiah 44:6, 48:12, Revelation 21:5-8, 22:13, Exodus 3:14–15; Isaiah 48:12)
  • The Father also has power over death (Acts 2:24)
  • The Father also has power to heal (Exodus 15:26)
  • The Father also has the authority to judge or forgive sin (Genesis 18:25, Exodus 34:7; Numbers 14:17, Matthew 6:14-15)
  • The Father is also called "the rock" (Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 18:2, 19:14; Isaiah 48:17; 1 Samuel 2:2; 2 Samuel 22:47)
  • The Father will also return to judge the world (Matthew 16:27-28; Revelation 14:1; 19:11-16; 22:1-5)
  • The Father is the source of truth or "light" (Psalm 27:1, 1 John 1:5-7)
  • The Father also rules over our world (Job 11:7)
  • The Father also look after His people (Matthew 6:26, Matthew 7:11, Matthew 10:29, James 1:17, Psalm 23:1, Ezekiel 34:2)

However, the Shema in the Bible teaches that there is only one God.

Christians solves this contradiction with Trinity Doctrine which view the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit as one substance or God-being usually referred as the "Godhead". Therefore, Christian worship and serve only one God, yet belief in a distinct Father, Son and Holy Spirit. To further support this view the following evidences are usually used to proof that Jesus is God:

Unfortunately the word "God" has many different meanings. For example a Christian, Jew, Muslim and Hindu could all worship their "god", but each intends to worship another "god". Therefore, if the above description fits your understanding of "God", then you could easily explain why Jesus is your "God" especially if you take into consideration that human kings and heroes were often also referred as "gods" by biblical standards.
