  • "Wonderful Counselor" (Isaiah 9:6)
  • "Might One" (Isaiah 9:6)
  • "Abi-Ad" (Isaiah 9:6) which potentially mean "Yahweh is my everlasting Father"
  • "Prince of Peace" (Isaiah 9:6)
  • "Immanuel" (Matthew 1:23, Isaiah 7:14) which means "God with us"
  • "The Cornerstone" (Ephesians 2:20; Zechariah 3:9; 1 Corinthians 10:4)
  • "Holy One" (Mark 1:24; Luke 1:35, 4:34; John 6:69; Acts 2:27, 13:35 quoting Psalm 16:10)
  • "Jesus" (Mark 1:1)
  • "The Light" (John 1:5, 3:19)

Attributes

Jesus as a human

  • He was made in the image of God (Col 1:15)
  • He has emotions (Psalm 2:12)
  • He has a soul (Matthew 26:38; Mark 14:34)
  • He has his own spirit (Matthew 27:50; Mark 2:8; Mark 8:11-12; John 11:33, 13:21, 19:30)
  • He was/is a hu"man" (Mark 15:39; John 8:40; Acts 2:22; Romans 5:15; 1 Timothy 2:5; Hebrews 10:12; Acts 17:30-31)
  • He was not a very popular person (Isaiah 53:2-3)
    • He was called a glutton and winebibber, friend of tax-collectors and sinners (Matthew 11:9)
    • His own brothers did not believe in him and mocked him (John 7:1-9)
    • He was judged by his appearance (John 7:24)
    • He did not wear soft/fine/rich-man clothes (Matthew 11:8)
  • He was known as a prophet (Matthew 11:9; Luke 1:76-79)
  • He did not keep all the Pharisees' laws (Matthew 12:1-2)
  • He was anointed by God with the Holy Spirit and with power (Acts 10:38)
    • He did not study yet, he had the knowledge of the Father (John 7:15-16)

What makes him special

  • Many prophets prophesied about him
  • He is the Christ (Messiah / Saviour)
  • The Father personally and publicly declared his love to him as His "beloved Son" (Matthew 3:17; 17:5; Mark 9:7)
  • He is the only one who ever "saw" God (John 1:18 (NKJV); John 6:46; 1 John 3:6, 4:12; Exodus 33:20; Isaiah 64:4)
  • He was born directly from God the Father and not from a human (John 1:13)
  • He is not from this world (John 8:23-24)
  • He is glorified by God (John 8:55, 13:32, 17:1, 17:5)
  • He was raised from the dead by God (Acts 2:24,32; 17:30-31; 1 Corinthians 15:15)
  • He is our advocate with the Father to the forgiveness of sin (1 John 2:1)
  • He is still actively involved in his "body" of disciples (e.g. interfered with Saul's prosecution Acts 9:1-6)
  • He will return with his Father to judge the world (Matthew 16:27-28; Revelation 19:11-16, 22:1-5)
  • He committed no sin (1 Peter 2:22; Hebrews 4:15; 1 John 3:5)

The purpose why Jesus became human

What Jesus did

  • Raise people from the dead (John 5:21)
  • Taught Paul personally (Galatians 1:11-23)
  • Freed believers from their sin by his blood (Revelation 1:5)
  • Established a kingdom (Revelation 1:6)
  • Made believers priests to his God and Father (Revelation 1:6)
