Jesus is our mediator to a greater God

It would not have been necessary for Jesus to declare himself "the way" to God if he was God. This would be necessary if Jesus was God Himself.

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." -- John 14:6 (ESV)

Isaiah wrote:

"For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways", declares the LORD.

"For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.

-- Isaiah 55:8-9 (ESV)

These two scriptures are not compatible if Jesus was God Himself.

God is not our way to Jesus, and we cannot reason or understand God's thoughts which are on a completely different level "as the heavens are higher than the earth".

Instead:

  • Jesus is our way (mediator or "high priest") to God (1 Timothy 2:5), and
  • we need to belief that Jesus taught us the truth (God's thoughts) (John 7:16),
  • so that we can live a life in righteousness with God (Proverbs 12:28; Romans 5:21).
