Ancient of Days
“I watched till thrones were put in place,
And the Ancient of Days was seated;
His garment was white as snow, and the hair of His head was like pure wool.
His throne was a fiery flame,
Its wheels a burning fire;
A fiery stream issued and came forth from before Him.A thousand thousands ministered to Him;
Ten thousand times ten thousand stood before Him.The court was seated, and the books were opened.
-- Daniel 7:10 (NKJV)
The "Ancient of Days" is God. Notice that "the Son of Man" is a separate person:
“I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man,
Coming with the clouds of heaven! (Revelation 1:7)
He came to the Ancient of Days,
And they brought him near before Him.Then to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, (Matthew 24:30)
That all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him.
His dominion is an everlasting dominion,
Which shall not pass away, and his kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed.-- Daniel 7:14
Then the interpretation follows:
Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High.
His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him.
-- Daniel 7:27 (NKJV)
However, note that:
- the "one like the Son of Man" means Daniel saw a human
- the "one like the son of man" came to "the Ancient of Days" which means he saw 2 characters, a human and "the Ancient of Days". Jesus is most likely "the Son of Man" (Matthew 8:20; 9:6; 10:23; 11:19; 12:8, 40; 13:41; 16:13,27,28; 17:9,12,22; 18:11; 19:28; 20:18; 20:28; 24:27,30,37,29,44; 25:13,31; 26:2,2445,64; Mark 2:10,28; 8:31,38; 9:9,12,31; 10:33,45; 13:26; 14:21,41,62; Luke 5:24; 6:5; 7:34; 9:22,26,44,56,58; 11:30; 12:8,10,40; 17:22,24,30; 18:8,31; 19:10; 21:27,36; 22:22,48,69; 24:7; John 1:51; 3:13,14; 5:27; 6:27,53,62; 8:28; 12:23,34; 13:31; Acts 7:56; Revelation 1:13; 14:14)
- the human person was given dominion and glory, by "the Ancient of Days". This implies that his authority was given by his God.
